Lada Firtash entered the Guild of Benefactors of the University of Cambridge
Lada Firtash, the head and the founder of Firtash Foundation has been invited to enter the Guild of Cambridge Benefactors. Solemn ceremony of initiation was held on March 19 in the Regent House of the University of Cambridge. The Lord Sainsbury of Turville, the Chancellor of the University of Cambridge presided over the ceremony. Thus, one of the world best universities highly appreciated the foundation activity and personal contribution of Dmitry and Lada Firtash into promoting of Ukraine in the United Kingdom. Only 150 philanthropists have obtained the honorary title of a member of the Guild of Cambridge Benefactors throughout the history of the Guild, among whom there are so well-known and reputable names as Margaret Thatcher, Bill and Melinda Gates. In 2011 Dmitry Firtash became the first Ukrainian honored to be invited to the Guild of Cambridge Benefactors. Ceremony of initiation to the Guild was held by His Royal Majesty Duke of Edinburgh, a spouse of Queen Elizabeth II.
After traditional procedure of enrollment Lada Firtash thanked the University governance for this honor and expressed her intent to continue fruitful cooperation.
Significance and topicality of projects implemented by Dmitry and Lada Firtash were repeatedly recognized both by the Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, professorial and teaching personnel, as well as statesmen and public persons of the United Kingdom. «We are happy to invite Lada Firtash to the Guild of Cambridge Benefactors. Dmitry and Lada Firtash are the founders of charitable Firtash Foundation. Since 2008 in collaboration with the University of Cambridge the foundation has been realizing the Cambridge Ukrainian Studies and Cambridge-Ukraine Studentships. Launched in 2008 as a pilot project Ukrainian Studies program has proved its significance over the years of its existence. Today the Ukrainian language, history, culture, literature and cinematography are taught in the framework of this program. As a result of continuous support of the program there is agrowing interest on the part of British and foreign students of the United Kingdom. Cambridge-Ukraine Studentships annually give unique chance to talented Ukrainian youth to obtain the Master’s degree at one of the most prestigious universities in the world. In autumn 2013 Firtash Foundation launched new unprecedented project in the British capital – for the first time the festival “Days of Ukraine in the United Kingdom” was held in London.
